Watching a short video on YouTube (search AD-scull deck view), I am amazed how easy it is to propel a small sail boat by yuloh. I wonder why more people are not doing this?
On my Folkboat, removing its ratty diesel would improve the boat by:-
Improving storage space below the cockpit, in the stbd. cockpit locker and stern locker.
Improve access to cockpit drain and through-hull fittings.
Reduce through-hull holes by four, including three below the waterline.
Remove the smell and pollution of diesel and engine oils within the boat and the waterways in which she travels.
Remove dependence on fossil fuels.
Allow the boat to enter harbour silently using a device which is made of mostly nature materials, is easily repairable and cheap.
350.org is having a water-borne protest against coal exports in Newcastle Harbour on 7-8 May 2016. Newcastle is the biggest coal export harbour in the world. I anchored just inside its breakwalls last New Years Eve and was astonished to witness coal shipping operating non-stop around the clock. The Australian government thinks that exporting is not a problem because they don't burn it, and they reckon they are providing a cheap source of electricity to poorer nations. Have you seen the smog in Beijing?
